In the period 2010-2013 Guy Cassiers directs the four-part opera cycle Der Ring des Nibelungen by Wagner at the Staatsoper in Berlin and Teatro alla Scala in Milan.
Cassiers interprets Der Ring as a dramatic story of our global world order, wherein the real power is in the hands of those who control, manipulate and distribute images and information. The opera cycle is conducted by the world-famous Daniel Bairenboim. Together with Kurt D’Haeseleer and Arjen Klerkx (video), Enrico Bagnoli (lighting) as well as Tim Van Steenbergen (costume) Cassiers combines Wagnerian vocabulary with today’s technical possibilities. Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui is involved for the choreography of the dance sequences in Siegfried, the third part of the opera cycle.
Premiere: 03 October 2012, Staatsoper unter den Linden – Berlin (DE)
